Memorable
Literary Event
Literary
Functions are held in Toronto (Greater Toromto} more frequently and
with more decorum than any other North American Urdu centre.
Launching of new books by Authors has become an almost casual
occurance and as such its format is usually pre-ordained .Favourite
speakers are invited to appear at the meeting and present their
impressions on the new book .Almost always, there are lavish
accolades for the authors's new work, followed by a Mushaera and a
sumptuous dinner.
Athar Razvi , who has 13 books to his name so
far, has tried to change the style and presentation in launching his
books. Firstly, it's called a Mazakara or a literary discourse .He
invites eminent Scholars from overseas and Canada and requests them
to analyse his new book , chapter and verse, then give their candid
impressions to the audience. Last week in Mississauga, his new book
entitled "DILNASHIN YADEN MEHRBAN LOAG" was presented at the
prestigious Living Arts Center.
They guest speakers included Mr. Ghazanfer Hashmi
, a prominent journalist and a writer from Islamabad, Dr. Maqsood
Jafri from Newyork, Professor Safdar Hamdani BBC Producer , London,
Professor Pervaiz Parvazi (Mississauga and Professor Satyapal Annand
from US who presided the Event.
After the speeches of the learned guests, there
was indeed a Mazakara which contained delightful exchange between
the Audience and the speakers.
Professor Parvazi commenced the program . His
speech was an embodiment of 'nit-picking'. He could not find
anything worth-praising in the book.Still, parts of his presentation
were appeciated by the participants. Dr. Maqsood Jafri read a
masterly paper which had in-depth analysis of author's literary
works. Safdar Hamdani made a brief speech in whch he explained the
'handicaps' a writer faces while writing a 'khaka'. Ghazanfer Hashmi
paid highest complements to Athar Razvi for his versatilty, Research
work and honesty and impartiality. Professor Annand praised the
author for his cute observation and respect for historical
authenticity.
Asfaq Husain conducted the meeting in delightful
manner. During the meeting, Bonnie Crombie, the Federal Liberal MP
of Mississauga paid high complements to Athar Razvi's services in
the cause of Urdu and the academic aura he has generated in
Canada. She also present a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of
Government of Canada to the author.
At the end the author thanked every speaker and
the audience for the success of the after-noon meeting which was a
memorable Event in Mississauga 's Urdu Circles.
